Highway Vignette — Austria

Austria requires a vignette for all motorways and expressways, operated by ASFINAG. The digital vignette is linked to your license plate. Note that certain tunnels and alpine passes have additional tolls on top of the vignette.

Where to Buy

The Austrian digital vignette can be purchased online through the ASFINAG shop, at petrol stations, border crossings, and ARBOE/OEAMTC offices throughout Austria.

Toll Roads

The vignette covers approximately 2,200 km of motorways (A1–A14) and expressways (S1–S36) managed by ASFINAG. Major tunnels such as the Brenner, Arlberg, Tauern, and Karawanken require separate tolls in addition to the vignette.

Vehicle Categories

Both cars and motorcycles require a vignette. Electric vehicles pay full price — no discount or exemption.

Fines

Austria enforces the vignette requirement through electronic monitoring and police patrols. Fines are imposed on the spot or sent by post.
