Which countries require a highway vignette?
Most Central European countries require an electronic highway vignette to drive on motorways and expressways. Below you will find an overview of prices and rules for each country.
Country Overview
Slovakia
Required for all motorways and expressways. Electronic — no sticker needed.
Czech Republic
Electronic vignette. Required for motorways and selected class I roads.
Austria
Digital vignette. Some tunnels and sections have additional special tolls.
Hungary
Electronic vignette (e-matrica). Required on motorways and expressways.
Slovenia
Electronic vignette (e-vinjeta). Required for all motorways and expressways.
Bulgaria
Electronic vignette. Required on all toll roads.
Romania
Electronic vignette (rovinieta). One of the cheapest in Europe.
Switzerland
Annual vignette only. Can also be purchased at the border. Required for all motorways.

Speed Limits
Motorway: 130 km/h (most countries), expressway: 110 km/h, urban: 50 km/h. Austria: 130, Hungary: 130, Slovenia: 130, Switzerland: 120.
Emergency Numbers
European emergency number: 112 (valid in all EU countries and Switzerland).
Required Equipment
Reflective vest, warning triangle and first aid kit are mandatory in most countries. Some countries also require snow chains in winter.
